Terms & Conditions
Last updated 24 August 2026
These terms apply every time you use portly.co.za or place an order with us. Please read them before you buy. Nothing in these terms takes away the rights the law gives you as a consumer in South Africa.
On this page
1. Who we are
Portly is an online store selling portable laundry and cleaning products in South Africa. South African law requires us to tell you exactly who you are dealing with:
- Trading name: Portly
- Legal status: An unincorporated business operated jointly by Louis Duan Vorster and Robert Heyns in their personal capacities
- Physical address: 1462 Oakmont Drive, Emfuleni Golf Estate, Vanderbijlpark, Gauteng
- Email: portly@gmail.com
- Phone: +27 72 230 1782
- Website: portly.co.za
- Company registration number: Not applicable. Portly is not currently a registered company.
- VAT number: Not applicable. We are not currently registered for VAT.
In these terms, "we", "us", "our" and "Portly" mean the business described above. "You" means the person using this website or buying from us.
2. Your agreement with us
By using this website or placing an order, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree with them, please do not use the site.
You must be 18 or older, or have the permission of a parent or guardian, to place an order.
These terms, together with our Returns & Refunds Policy, Delivery Policy and Privacy Policy, make up the whole agreement between you and us.
3. Products and descriptions
We try to describe and photograph our products as accurately as we can. Product images are a mix of studio photography and lifestyle images, and colours may look slightly different depending on your screen.
Product measurements, cycle times and capacities are supplied by the manufacturer and are approximate. Small variations do not mean a product is defective.
Customer reviews shown on this site are reproduced from the listing of the same product on our supplier's marketplace. They are the honest opinions of those buyers, not of Portly, and we show both positive and critical reviews.
Stock is limited. If a product becomes unavailable after you order it, we will contact you and refund you in full.
4. Prices and VAT
All prices are shown in South African Rand (ZAR) and include any applicable taxes. We are not currently registered for VAT, so no VAT is charged on your order and we cannot issue a VAT invoice.
Delivery costs are shown separately before you complete your order.
We may change prices at any time, but a change will never affect an order we have already accepted.
Pricing errors: If a product is listed at an obviously incorrect price because of a genuine mistake, we will contact you before dispatch. You may then confirm the order at the correct price or cancel it for a full refund. We will not be bound by an obvious error, but we will never simply take your money and stay silent.
5. Orders and when a sale is made
When you place an order you are making an offer to buy. We will send you an email confirming that we have received it. That email is an acknowledgement, not yet an acceptance.
A binding sale only comes into existence when we dispatch your order and send you a dispatch confirmation. Until then we may decline your order, for example if the item is out of stock, if we cannot verify your details, or if there was a pricing error.
If we decline your order after you have paid, we will refund you in full.
6. Payment
We accept the payment methods shown at checkout. [CONFIRM PAYMENT METHODS ONCE YOUR PAYMENT PROVIDER IS SET UP]
Payments are processed by an external payment provider over a secure encrypted connection. We do not receive or store your full card details on our systems.
Your order will only be dispatched once payment has cleared.
7. Delivery
We deliver within South Africa only.
Some of our orders are shipped to you directly by our supplier rather than from our own premises. This does not change any of your rights: your contract is with Portly, and you deal with us for delivery queries, returns and refunds.
Delivery timeframes given on the site are estimates, not guarantees, and depend on the courier. If delivery is going to be materially delayed we will tell you, and you may cancel for a full refund.
Risk in the goods passes to you on delivery. Full details are in our Delivery Policy.
8. Your 7-day cooling-off right
Because you are buying online, section 44 of the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act gives you the right to cancel your order within 7 days of receiving the goods, without giving any reason and without penalty. You return the goods, and we refund you within 30 days.
The only cost you carry is the cost of returning the goods to us. The goods must be complete and in a resaleable condition.
This is a legal minimum that we cannot reduce. We also offer a longer 14-day change-of-mind window as a goodwill policy, explained in our Returns & Refunds Policy.
9. Returns and faults
Under section 56 of the Consumer Protection Act, if goods turn out to be defective, unsafe or not fit for their ordinary purpose, you may return them within 6 months of delivery. Where that applies, the choice of a refund, a replacement or a repair is yours, not ours.
This does not cover damage caused by misuse, accident, neglect, unauthorised repairs, or ordinary wear and tear. Our full process, including how to send something back, is set out in the Returns & Refunds Policy.
10. Our liability
We will always honour the rights the Consumer Protection Act gives you. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded.
Subject to that, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, such as loss of profit or loss of data, arising from your use of this website or our products.
Our products are intended for ordinary domestic use. Please follow the instructions supplied with the machine, particularly regarding water, electricity and load limits.
We do not warrant that this website will always be available or free of errors.
11. Using this website
You may use this site for browsing and placing genuine orders. You may not use it fraudulently, attempt to gain unauthorised access to it, introduce malicious code, or scrape it for commercial purposes.
You are responsible for the accuracy of the information you give us, including your delivery address.
12. Intellectual property
The Portly name, logo, site design, written content, photography and video on this site belong to us or are used with permission. You may not copy or reuse them commercially without our written consent.
13. Privacy
We handle your personal information in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA). Please read our Privacy Policy to see what we collect, why, and what rights you have.
14. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. The version published on this page at the moment you place an order is the version that governs that order. The "last updated" date at the top always reflects the current version.
15. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the law of the Republic of South Africa, and the South African courts have jurisdiction.
If something goes wrong, please contact us first. Most problems are quickest to solve directly.
If we cannot resolve it, you may refer the matter to the National Consumer Commission or to a recognised consumer goods ombud. You are never obliged to use our internal process before exercising your legal rights.
